The conference was first organized in 2007 by the Cardiology Unit and jointly organized by the Emergency Department at the School of Medical Sciences lecture hall on the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Health Campus. Following positive feedback from the first conference, the Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) Cardiology Unit collaborated with CardiologyUpdate@USM to organize the conference for the second time in 2008. The honourable Professor Dato' Dr. Zurkurnai bin Yusof patronized the conference, and the National Heart Association of Malaysia (NHAM) promoted it.

With the involvement of participants and speakers from Asia, the conference gained public attention, especially among cardiologists in Malaysia. Consequently, CardiologyUpdate@USM was upgraded to Asia Pacific CardiologyUpdate@USM (APCU@USM), and the then Vice-Chancellor of USM Penang, the honourable Dato' Omar Osman, was invited to launch the conference officially However, it was officiated by Health Campus officials due to unpreventable reason.

In 2014, the Director of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education Malaysia, the honourable Professor Dato' Dr. Asma Ismail, launched the conferencenon behalf of the then-second Minister of Education, the honorable Dato Seri Idris bin Jusoh. In 2015, the committee agreed to invite the Minister of Health, the honourable Dato Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam, to launch the conference, but it was represented by the honourable Dato Dr. Azman Abu Bakar, Director of Medical Development, Ministry of Health, accompanied by Director of Health, Kelantan, the honourable Dato Dr Ahmad Razin bin Dato Ahmad Mahir. In his inaugural speech, he announced his full support for the conference and assured that the Ministry of Health would always support it.

The conference was not organized in 2016 due to some unavoidable reasons. However, it resumed in 2017, and the 10th conference was officiated by the Director of Medical Development, Ministry of Health, Dato' Dr. Haji Azman Abu Bakar. Also present were the national cardiology service advisor of the Ministry of Health, Dato' Dr Omar Ismail, President of the National Cardiology Institute, Dr. Ng Wai Kiat, Director of Health Kelantan, Dato Haji Ahmad Razin Ahmad Mahir, senior deputy director (clinical) on behalf of the director of health campus, Dr. Nik Min Ahmad, joint director of the conference, Dr. Mohd Sapawi Mohamed as well as the president of USM Internal Medicine Association, Dr. Wan Mohd Izani Wan Mohamed. The conference was held in conjunction with World Heart Day 2017, and the Ministry of Health Malaysia invited the society to appreciate their heart and cardiovascular health.

In 2018, APCU@USM was widely known. Cardiologists from various institutions presented various related topics. The conference, with the theme 'Increasing Care through Applied Cardiology,' became an annual platform for cardiologists and medical practitioners worldwide to share knowledge and the latest breakthroughs in cardiology. Deputy Director-General of Health (Medicine), Datuk Dr. Azman Abu Bakar, officiated the 11th APCU@USM 2018 on behalf of the Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, with HUSM Senior Cardiology Consultant, Professor Datuk Dr. Zurkurnai Yusof.

The 12th APCU@USM was held in 2019 at USM. The conference was inaugurated by the Malaysian Minister of Health, YB Datuk Seri Dr. Haji Dzulkefly Bin Ahmad, and the Minister of Education, YB Dr. Maszlee Malik, along with Professor Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail, the Vice Chancellor of USM. The conference received full support from the Health Campus Director, YBhg Professor Dato' Paduka Dr. Ahmad Sukari Bin Halim, the director of HUSM.

In 2023, the 13th APCU@USM was held Hotel Grand Renai, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. The theme of the conference was “Redefining the Future of Cardiology”. This conference was officiated by Dr. Mohd Azman Yacob, the Director of Health Ministry Medical Development Division. The event was a success, with at least 30 abstracts published in the International Journal of Cardiology, for the first time.
